Glimpses from the Holy Land - Caesarea

When I first caught a glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea in Caesarea, I thought it was breathtakingly beautiful.  To stand in such an historic place; to see and touch the remains of the accomplishments of man from well over 2,000 years ago was impressive - but what really impressed me was that this was the place where the first gentiles received the Holy Spirit!
Remnants of stonework and mosaic tiles from Herod’s palace as well as the head quarters of the Roman governor; Pontius Pilate still remain intact.  This was one of the largest ports along the Mediterranean with ships coming and going throughout Europe.  It is no wonder God selected this gateway city to pour out His spirit on the gentiles.
I had an incredible urge to head over towards the rocky edges of the aquamarine water.  Slipping away, I climbed over pieces of ancient rocks and stones.  I began to feel God’s presence so strongly. “Look at me” I pondered, “standing here in the place where God poured down His Spirit upon the gentiles!” I imagined Peter standing before Cornelius preaching the good news of Jesus to a room overflowing with family and friends.  I remembered that Phillip the evangelist had lived here with his four virgin daughters who prophesized and evangelized God’s word!
“What a significant place” I thought “here at this important port the gospel went forth!” In Isaiah 60 it reads “Arise, Shine, for your light has come!” and further down in verse 3: “The Gentiles shall come to your light and the kings to the brightness of your rising.”
The Holy Spirit filled everyone who believed 2,000 years ago and He continues to do so as there is no shortage of God’s Spirit!  -  His light has come!
There is hope for our children and our families that they will experience a Caesarea outpouring! Let us lay hold of the promises of God and declare over our sons and our daughters: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God; That I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, your sons and daughters will prophesy…!” Acts 2: 17
I thanked God for the special moment that I had with Him down by the water’s edge and tugged a few small stones in my pocket as a tangible reminder…
Please watch for my next blog for another glimpse from the Holy Land.
Shalom!
